The year was 1969, our father, Joe Walker was selling insurance at the time. Not very much money was coming in and things were really rough for Joe. He was trying to take care of a wife and three young girls. With not much to lose, Joe decided to ask his father, a farmer in southeast Kansas, for a loan of $5,000.00 to open a restaurant in hopes of making a better life for himself and his family. His brother-in-law owned the restaurant franchise that he affiliated himself with. He struggled, saved, and finally opened a pizza restaurant in Shawnee, Kansas on Nieman Road in the old McAnany home in May of 1969. After many successful years at this location, Joe decided it was time to move to a bigger building of his own. This is the current location at 60th & Nieman. His brother-in-law owned the restaurant franchise that he affiliated himself with. He struggled, saved, and finally opened a pizza restaurant in Shawnee, Kansas on Nieman Road in the old McAnany home in May of 1969. I love the pizza here and the folks at the Shawnee mission location are always so friendly.
I was not overly impressed by the staff at the Lenexa location, so we just always go to Shawnee mission folks!!!

We’re regular customers at Old Shawnee Pizza, and it’s always a great experience. The pizza is always delicious, and our waitress always gets our special order exactly right every time. It’s great to have friendly, attentive service along with the best crispy pizza in town. Highly recommend!

Best pizza in KC hands down. Top tier experience for the whole family. Service and food were excellent. OSP is a family tradition. Even though my sister ate some of my pepperoni black olive slices. Lol
